Hey Educators- join us for a virtual, live interactive program that allows students to meet a financial expert and learn about the crucial concepts of budgeting and expense management. Students will also have the opportunity to explore pay stubs and understand aspects of income and deductions, including CPP.
Date: April 11, 2025
Time: 10:00-10:45 AM PT
Grades: 8-12
Delivery: Facilitated by Laura Hargrave, a seasoned financial professional with extensive expertise in financial planning and financial literacy education
Format: Online
Instructional time: 45 minutes, including a Q&A
This experience aims to support students in their journey to explore and refine their financial goals by reflecting on their personal budgets and expenses. Understanding pay stubs, incomes, and deductions, like CPP, provides practical knowledge for their early career experiences.
A JA volunteer from the local community with a financial background plays a key role in this program as the featured guest speaker, guiding and inspiring students to establish a robust foundation for financial independence and success in a dynamic economy.
After completing the program, students will be prepared to:
- Create a monthly budget for themselves using the budget sheets provided for the session and revise them against an income.
- Gain a better understanding about the components of a typical pay stub, the difference between gross and net incomes, deductions, and more.
- Develop savings strategies and begin financial planning.
