You can make a difference in young people’s lives.

How to budget. The importance of a savings plan. What it takes to launch a business. What to do during a job interview. Don’t you wish someone talked to you about these topics when you were growing up? Now there is someone: YOU.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering lets you enhance your skills, share your interests, inspire youth, meet new people and give back to the community.

Time commitments vary from half-day to multiple one-hour visits over several weeks. Volunteer opportunities are available around the province, in cities and small communities. Your Program Manager will coordinate a schedule between you and a classroom teacher. You can choose your classroom based on a number of factors. We’re flexible.

We are looking for volunteers who:

Enjoy working with and mentoring young people

Have a good command of the English language

Feel comfortable presenting information and ideas to a class of students

Are patient, flexible, organized and engaging

Business knowledge and experience is helpful, but not required

JA programs are fun, hands-on and can transform a young person’s life.  Volunteer now!

Please note that the registration process involves two steps:

  1. Create your profile.
  2. Complete the registration questions.

Once you’ve completed both steps, a JABC Program Manager will contact you to coordinate the next steps in our volunteer onboarding process.

If you’re not sure which program is right for you, check out our volunteer page for some guidance. Also, our Program Managers are always available to help and answer any questions for you.

Your time commitment will vary depending on the program you choose. For example, some programs are conducted in half-day sessions. Elementary school programs are typically delivered in a weekly visit of one hour each over the course of four to five weeks while JA Company Program volunteers dedicate 10 to 12 one or two-hour sessions over the course of 16 weeks. Learn more about our programs and their time commitments here.

We will collaborate with you to find a solution that fits your needs. Our options range from as little as a 30-minute session to programs lasting up to 16 weeks.

Because we offer a unique experience! Volunteering with us allows you to directly witness the positive impact you make on youth, helping to shape their futures in a meaningful and rewarding way.

Please contact your assigned program manager. They will work with you to reschedule.

No, you do not need teaching experience to volunteer with JABC. We do ask that volunteers are comfortable speaking and presenting in front of a group.

Yes! If you are interested in getting involved in more than one JA program type, you can indicate this in your registration or reach out to your JA Program Manager who will be happy to help connect you with more JA opportunities.

We encourage our volunteers to teach two or more programs over the course of a school year. However, we are very flexible. JA Company Program volunteers are only asked to deliver one program due to its length.

JA reaches out to our volunteers periodically as opportunities become available. If you express interest in a particular program, school or date, we’ll work with you and the teacher involved to coordinate. You can also view a list of upcoming volunteer opportunities and sign up for specific classes/events.
