June 7, 2023 – Student Company Mellow Cream Co. is the recipient of JA British Columbia’s 2023 Celebrate Entrepreneurship Award. This $3,000 award is sponsored by the B.C. Ministry of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation and recognizes the JA student company that best demonstrates innovation.

Developed by a team of seven high school students, Mellow Cream Co. launched a series of handcrafted eco-friendly candles designed as favourite drinks. Themes included gingerbread latte, regular latte and strawberry creamsicle. With a goal to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of air pollution, they used quality ingredients for their product selection. These materials included soy wax, to help produce cleaner smoke, and essential oils for health benefits.

“Some of the most innovative ideas come from the creative minds of our young entrepreneurs. This is certainly the case with the students from Mellow Cream Co,” said Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, Brenda Bailey. “Congratulations on being awarded the 2023 Celebrate Entrepreneurship Award and to a bright future ahead. I’m looking forward to what comes next from this exciting program!”

Mellow Cream Co. was part of the 16-week JA Company Program that encourages high school students to build their own start-up. Led by business mentors, students create their own companies and learn about human centered design thinking, creative product development, product life cycles, e-commerce, app development and more. Student companies must address one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Learn more about the JA Company program
