October 30, 2020- JA British Columbia (JABC) is pleased to announce that LNG Canada has committed $50,000 to help deliver more financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs to students in B.C. for the 2020-2021 school year.
Half of the funding will go towards online and in-classroom program expansion to students in grades four to 12, in School District #82 Coast Mountains. Coast Mountains is a school district in Northern British Columbia with 19 schools and includes the major centres of Terrace and Kitimat.
The remaining $25,000 will go to JABC TechWorks, a program that introduces high school students in B.C. to a wide variety of tech and tech-related careers. With technology as the fastest growing industry in B.C. and a leading economic driver of growth, there is high demand for skilled workers. This funding will help expand JABC TechWorks into a virtual province-wide program in Spring 2021, giving more students exposure to new career options, regardless of where they live.
“The financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programming and educational opportunities provided by JABC align directly with our social investment pillar of supporting community wellness and education,” said Susannah Pierce, director corporate affairs, LNG Canada. “The LNG terminal we are building in Kitimat will use state-of-the-art technology and our hope is that students will be inspired by the TechWorks program and potentially chose to work at our facility one day.”
