The 5th annual Discovery Foundation’s Discover your Pitch finale was held on May 10, 2023. Presented by JABC, this exclusive competition gives B.C. high school students the unique opportunity to pitch their business ideas for a chance to win cash prizes.
Eight local student teams pitched live to a panel of seasoned business leaders at the Terminal City Club in downtown Vancouver. Parents, mentors, JABC team members and JABC partners came out to watch the pitches and meet the students. It was a challenging task for the judges to reach a decision. Judge Joel Hansen said, “It wasn’t easy. And to be honest, I was floored by the level of detail some of them had weaved into their pitches.”
Here are the final results:
1st place ($3,000) & Fan Favourite ($500) Tidal Blue Technology
Presenters: Simon Ing, Benjamin Zheng, Kenjamin Wang
Student description: Tidal Blue Technology is a clean energy company focused on providing green energy to the world. We harness the power of the ocean to fuel the future.
2nd place ($1,500) ReFila
Presenters: Bryan Ma, Sunny Liu
Student description: We recycle plastic waste, such as plastic bottles, into 3D Printing filament. We will sell the filament and 3D printed objects, such as keychains, with the filament.
3rd place ($500) FAST n FRESH
Presenter: Kate Clay
Student description: When you think of fast food, your mind may associate it with unhealthy greasy food that tastes good in the moment but leaves you with regret. FAST n FRESH is here to change that by providing healthier delicious options in a fast food setting. Featuring sustainable burger options, greens and our signature “Air Fries”.

Discovery Foundation’s Discover your Pitch, presented by JABC, is an exclusive investor pitch competition for B.C. high school students to take their business and presentation skills and knowledge to the next level.
