August 23, 2024 – The JA Company Program Summer Camp has wrapped up after an exciting week of business education, teamwork, innovation, and communication. The camp’s pinnacle was the pitch competition, where five teams presented their innovative business ideas to a panel of judges.
The top three standout pitches included:
- JobSwipe: JobSwipe not only simplifies job searches but also offers an affordable and accessible solution, with free daily swipes and additional options for minimal fees, making it particularly appealing to youth struggling with unemployment.
- Connect 5: Connect 5 is an advanced trash bin system designed to improve recycling efficiency, aiming to increase proper plastic recycling by 15%. It would partner with Clean Robotics and government agencies, focusing on reducing waste with user-friendly technology
- Ignite Insight: A mentorship platform designed to guide students from elementary school to university in choosing careers that align with their passions. The program partners with diversity organizations and charities, providing resources and mentorship sessions to help students make informed career decisions.
The event was hosted by CPA BC, whose top-tier facilities and staff created a conducive environment for learning and professional growth. Campers benefited from insightful talks by guest speakers, including Larry Jung and Natalie Williams from CPA BC, Andrea Welling, MA, CDP, PIDP from Futurpreneur BC, and Maxine Cunningham from Pick My Brain. Their presentations provided valuable industry insights to inspire participants.
The judging panel included Emily Heinrich, Maxine Cunningham, Meghan Douglas, and Zahra Carol Baghdadi, CPA, who gave thorough evaluations and constructive feedback to help the student teams refine their ideas.
