March 15, 2025 – We are proud to have launched a specialized version of the JA Company Program for Indigenous Learners in partnership with UBC Sauder and the Vancouver School Board. This 16-week, in-class program is designed to inspire and empower Indigenous high school students through hands-on business education, integrating Coast Salish viewpoints and culture.
The launch took place on February 13 at UBC Sauder School of Business, bringing students together for a dynamic day of learning, networking, and inspiration. The event began with a warm welcome from UBC Sauder, the Vancouver School Board, and JABC, followed by remarks from Dean Dahl of UBC Sauder. Students then heard an inspiring keynote from Dennis Thomas-Whonoak, Executive Director of Indigenous Business Initiatives & Engagement at UBC Sauder, who shared his insights on entrepreneurship, leadership, and the power of community.
Students took part in a variety of activities, including a community-building exercise, an insightful panel discussion, a campus tour, and a social gathering, fostering connections with UBC Sauder faculty, educators, JABC team members, and JABC volunteers.
This JA Company Program for Indigenous Learners is now underway at Britannia, Vancouver Technical, Point Grey, and Lord Byng Secondary Schools.
We’re grateful for the amazing volunteers who are guiding students in the classrooms as they explore entrepreneurship, develop business skills, and gain real-world experience: Max Lane & Tristan Watts (Nicola Wealth), Yash Singhal & Jasmine Ma (RBC), Fergal Delaney (Acuitas Therapeutics), Hassan Pardwala (Parda Sense Solutions), Mason Sheppard (Spare Parts and Gasoline), Sofia Lopez (JABC Alum) & Rani Bansal (JA British Columbia).
A special thank you to our founding donor, Peter M. Brown, for his generous support in making this program possible. His belief in education and entrepreneurship is shaping the next generation of Indigenous business leaders.
We’re excited to grow this initiative in the coming year, reaching even more communities and further empowering Indigenous youth as they explore new opportunities and build valuable skills.
