May 25, 2022- Yesterday was the 4th annual Discovery Foundation’s Discover your Pitch, presented by JABC. This exclusive competition lets B.C. high school students pitch their business ideas for a chance to win cash prizes. View images here.
Six local student teams pitched live to a panel of seasoned business leaders and entrepreneurs at the Terminal City Club in downtown Vancouver. Parents, teachers, JABC team members and JABC partners came out to watch the pitches and meet the students. The judges had a tough time deliberating. All of the teams were excellent and made huge progress since the start of the program six weeks ago.
Here are the final results!
1st place ($3,000) StormShine

On top of being a conventional solar panel, our product features new solar-cell technology developed by researchers from Suzhou University, which can use the kinetic energy from rainfall to produce electricity. On both sunny and rainy days, this solar panel can generate energy.
2nd place ($1,500) Ponderosa

Student description: Plastic utensils are becoming an increasingly more prevalent problem in our society today, but not one that can’t be solved. Our company, Edible Utensils, aims to help resolve this issue by bringing inexpensive and sustainable cutlery to the table. Our utensils are quick and easy to make, only using four ethically sourced ingredients, as well as natural flavouring so the utensils go with any meal you eat. We believe that we can solve the problem of utensils in the landfill.
